Today, Microsoft confirmed via their blog that Dead Island, and Toy Soldiers: Cold War will both be available for free during the February “Games With Gold” promotion.
The promo kicks off with Dead Island which will be available for download to all Xbox Live Gold subscribers from February 1st to February 16th. This action RPG/survival horror title was well received by fans when it launched way back in September of 2011. The game was was also classified as Techland’s first attempt at exploring this genre and effectively lead to the creation of the upcoming game Dying Light. If for any reason you still haven’t had a chance to play this game, then you can do so as early as tomorrow.
On January 16th, the promo will continue with Toy Soldiers: Cold War taking over as the free game for the rest of the month. This action/strategy game is the follow-up sequel to the original Toy Soldiers game that launched on XBLA way back in 2010.
Not surprisingly, this month’s Games With Gold offerings are highly disappointing when compared to the January promotion. While Dead Island is a fun game in it’s own right, it is a lot older than Sleeping Dogs and may not appeal to quite as many people. I fully believe that Microsoft is still holding back on this service and therefore will keep my expectations low once it hits the Xbox One later this year.
Will any of you be downloading either one of these games for free? Are you still hopeful that Games With Gold will deliver or has the shipped sailed already? Please feel free to let me know your thoughts on this and more in the comments section below.
