The new Kinect is coming to the PC this month, the standalone Kinect v2 will be available for developers to use starting from July 15 for a price of $199.
The listing was put up on the Microsoft Store today, the page provides this description for the device:
“The Kinect for Windows v2 sensor gives developers more of the precision, responsiveness, and intuitive capabilities they need to develop interactive voice- and gesture-based applications for the Windows desktop and Windows Store. The v2 sensor is intended for use with the Kinect for Windows software development kit (SDK) 2.0.”
People did a lot of interesting things with the original Kinect on the PC, so hopefully we see a similar thing happen here. Although I’m not sure the advantages of the Kinect v2 are enough to warrant people buying a new one for $199, especially now that not all Xbox Ones will be shipping with the device.
Let me know if you think the new Kinect will take off on PC in the comments section below.
