Microsoft Files Trademark for Battletoads

Is a reboot in the works for the Xbox One?

Written by on

Earlier today, news surfaced online regarding the return of an old Rare franchise exclusively to the Xbox One. According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Microsoft recently filed a trademark for Battletoads. All of the details regarding this filing can be seen right HERE.

When questioned about the intent of this trademark, A Microsoft spokesperson offered the following response:

“Microsoft often acquires various trademarks as part of its ongoing business strategy, but beyond that we have no comment.”

The original Battletoads debuted on the Nintendo Entertainment System way back in 1991. This popular beat ’em up game was praised for it’s difficulty and seen as a direct rival to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle video games. Below is the quick intro trailer from the game to give you all a sense of nostalgia.

While Microsoft hasn’t yet revealed anymore details on this move, the best bet is that we will most likely hear more about their plans sooner rather than later.

Do any of you remember the Battletoads franchise? If yes, do any of you think this was a good move by Microsoft to revive the series? Please feel free to let us know your thoughts on the matter and more in the comments section below.
