New Call of Duty Will Be A “Next-Gen-First Development”

Activision’s publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg has elaborated on how Sledgehammer will develop their first solo Call of Duty game with next-gen consoles in mind.

In an interview with IGN, Hershberg says:

“Sledgehammer is approaching this as a next-gen-first development. Obviously in the console-transition year, anyone who developed a cross-generational game last year had to deal with the fact that the technology of the next-gen platforms was still coming into focus and changing quite a bit during the development process…. Now that we have the next-gen hardware out in the marketplace and solid, that is our primary development”

This will be good news for new consoles fans who thought that Ghosts was lacking in many departments on the Xbox One and the PS4, in the case of Call of Duty 2014 it seems like those consoles will be the lead versions with the last gen versions being developed as an after thought. Hopefully this means that the game will be a lot more impressive. I honestly can’t wait to see what Sledgehammer can do with the Call of Duty license, the swapping between Infinity Ward and Treyarch had led to some predictable games.

Let me know in the comments what you think about this, are Sledgehamer right to develop with the new consoles in mind?
