This week two major announcements were made regarding the Psychonauts series. On December 3rd, the crowdfunding campaign for Psychonauts 2 was announced and only three days later on December 6th, Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin was announced.
Psychonauts 2 is already 60% towards its crowdfunded budget. In nearly four days, backers have contributed a whopping amount of almost two million dollars towards the sequel, bringing it very close to its $3,300,000 dollar budget.
The game will be released on PlayStation, PC, Xbox One and Apple products.
You can find the following information regarding the sequel on the game’s crowdfunding site:
“In Psychonauts 2, Raz realizes his dream and visits Psychonauts Headquarters. However, when he gets there, he finds it’s not the perfect place he expected and quickly realizes that the Psychonauts need him more than he needs them.”
Slated for release in 2016, Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin will be one of the first games to feature PlayStation’s new VR (virtual reality) component. In an email from Double Fine they state:
“Just to be clear, Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin is 100% separate from the Fig campaign for Psychonauts 2 — separate mission, separate funding! It’s a totally separate game that will bridge the story gap between the original Psychonauts and Psychonauts 2, and we’re really excited about it!”
