Final Fantasy XIV is certainly one of the most interesting MMORPGs on the market. On our latest episode of Turn Based we even mentioned how we’d love to get back into the game given the time. Sadly, Final Fantasy XIV is currently the victim of severe DDoS attacks from “an anonymous third party”. The attacks are targeting the North American data center specifically and the attacks have been ongoing since June 16th.
Publisher Square Enix has released a statement verifying that the server issues are not due to an influx of players. “Our technical staff is taking every possible measure to address this issue but the attack is still continuing to take place by changing their methods at every moment. We will continue to monitor and work on recovery from every possible angle.”
Square Enix are working to resolve the problems, but be aware that you may experience disconnection from the game and login difficulties.
The timing of the attack is extremely unfortunate as the Stormblood expansion had just released. Stormblood adds two new jobs to the MMORPG, the Red Mage and the Samurai, along with new dungeons and new raids while increasing the level cap to 70. Hopefully they smooth things out soon so that players can enjoy the new content.
