12 Massive Video Games Worth Playing After Red Dead Redemption 2

Friday, October 26th marks the worldwide release of one of this year’s most anticipated video games when Red Dead Redemption 2 finally hits stores. Given the ambitious nature of this title, many have jumped to the conclusion that any game released after this title might not get quite as much attention.

With this in mind, I wanted to take out a moment to highlight a few big titles that should definitely be on your radar after Rockstar’s latest blockbuster game drops. These titles represent several different genres including action-adventure, stealth, action-RPG, platformer, first-person shooter, puzzle, survival and turn-based strategy.

Call of Cthulhu is a role-playing survival horror game set within an open world environment and based on both the H.P. Lovecraft short story and 1980’s RPG title of the same name. The player takes on the role of Private Detective Edward Pierce and is tasked with solving the murder of a family while identifying the return of The Great Old Ones, powerful ancient creatures who once ruled Earth. Fans of psychological horror games with elements of stealth and investigation will definitely like what Call of Cthulhu has to offer.

Overkill’s The Walking Dead is a cooperative first-person shooter inspired by the popular comic book series created by Robert Kirkman. The story revolves around four unique characters having to work together to navigate throughout the zombie-infested streets of Washington, D.C. This title is an ideal pickup for fans of games like Left 4 Dead and Earthfall.

Tetris Effect is a music-infused tile-matching puzzle game based on the popular Tetris series and directed by Tetsuya Mizuguchi. This single-player experience is fully compatible with PSVR and promises to keep skilled players on their toes with new challenges as they progress through every level.

Release Date: November 13th

Hitman 2 is the seventh entry in IO Interactive’s stealth video game series and the sequel to the episodic Hitman title released in 2016. This time around, Agent 47 sets his sights on taking out the Shadow Client and learning more about his past. Having played this game briefly during E3 2018, I can confirm that setting up multiple opportunities to eliminate targets is even more fun than it was before and many will enjoy the new places that our protagonist will be traveling to.

Release Date: November 13th

Spyro Reignited Trilogy is a platformer developed by Toys for Bob and includes remastered versions of Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage! and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. This collection is the result of all the success gained from the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and is a welcomed treat for any and every fan of Spyro.

Fallout 76 is an online multiplayer action RPG and the prequel to the Fallout series. The game takes place in West Virginia 25 years after a nuclear war and players are tasked with recolonizing the entire wasteland. Fallout is easily one of Bethesda’s most popular franchises next to The Elder Scrolls and thus this game is destined to get a lot of attention once it releases next month.

Underworld Ascendant is a first-person action RPG and the sequel to both Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss and Ultima Underworld II: Labyrinth of Worlds. As the Avatar, players can expect simulated encounters, emergent gameplay, and non-linear progression. Anyone looking for a different type of action RPG experience may find themselves right at home with this title.

Battlefield V is a first-person shooter and the sixteenth entry in the Battlefield series. This title revisits World War II stories introduced in Battlefield 1 but with a strong emphasis on different characters point of view including female heroines. Fans of the franchise can also expect new gameplay modes one of which uses the Battle Royale formula which is very popular right now.

Darksiders III is a hack and slash action-adventure game and the long-awaited sequel to Darksiders II. The lead protagonist of this story is Fury, sister to the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and her goal is to destroy the Seven Deadly Sins. If you enjoyed the previous two games in the series, then picking up this installment is an absolute no-brainer.

Just Cause 4 is a third-person open world action-adventure game and the sequel to Just Cause 3. As Rico Rodriguez, players are given the ability to explore a fictional country in South American in search of a paramilitary group called the Black Hand. Fans of the other installments can expect plenty of action and breathtaking effects due to the implementation of the newest version of the Apex game engine.

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is a tactical adventure, turn-based strategy game based on the 1980’s Swedish pen and paper RPG series titled Mutant. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a fighting game and the fifth entry in Nintendo’s iconic Super Smash Bros. franchise. Ultimate is expected to have a roster of 74 playable new and returning characters. This is the highest number of fighters to ever appear in a Super Smash Bros. title and one of many reasons why fans can’t wait to get their hands on this game later this year.
