Throwback Thursday – Remembering the Legacy of Adam West

In 2014, Adam West held a press conference at NYCC to reminiscent on his legacy as Batman, his friendship with Bruce Lee, his voice over work and more.

Batman (the series) was a 1960s live action television series, based on the DC comic book character. It stars Adam West as Bruce Wayne / Batman and Burt Ward as Dick Grayson / Robin – two crime-fighting heroes who defend Gotham City from a variety of arch villains. It is known for its camp style, upbeat theme music, and its intentionally humorous, simplistic morality (aimed at its largely teenage audience).

Batman was nominated for the Emmy Award for outstanding comedy series in its first year, losing out to CBS’ The Dick Van Dyke Show. A 20th Century Fox movie played in theaters in the summer before season two kicked off in September 1966.

Best known as Mayor Adam West on Adam West Family Guy, he was the soft-spoken mayor of the town of Quahog, Rhode Island. He appeared on a recurring basis from his first appearance in season 2 until his final appearance in season 17. Mayor West was characterized as an intense yet friendly, childish crackpot whose delusions often came at great expense and sometimes danger to citizens of Quahog. His psychotic whims included dispatching the entire Quahog police department to search for the fictional character Elaine Wilder from the film Romancing the Stone, or wasting council money on a solid gold statue of the Dig ‘Em frog and cementing coffins since he is afraid the dead will return as zombies.
