Zoe Kravitz Set to Make Directorial Debut with Pussy Island

Zoe Kravitz is one of the biggest names in Hollywood right now, following on from her incredible performance as Catwoman in The Batman. She was one of the highlights of Matt Reeves’ recent reimagining of Gotham City and earned a lot of praise from critics.

Kravitz is now set to expand her profile with her first forays into directing. She’ll be in the chair for the upcoming thriller, Pussy Island, which is set to feature Naomi Ackie, Channing Tatum, and Christian Slater.

Kravitz Recently Became a Household Name as Catwoman

Kravitz has been in numerous movies since her debut big screen appearance in No Reservations in 2007. However, it was her most recent turn as Catwoman in The Batman that made her a household name. Some publications referred to her as the best Catwoman of all time, and her chemistry with Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader was incredible.

Reeves opted to subvert a few traditional tropes with some of the characters in The Batman, with the Riddler most notably deviating from his usual attire of a green suit and a bowler hat. However, he stuck to the iconic catsuit for Selina Kyle, and Catwoman also had her classic acrobatic and martial arts skills. This appeased Batman purists who like to see some familiar elements when they view new projects.

It’s unclear whether Kravitz will appear in future installments of Reeves’ Batman series, but it seems likely. Audiences will be desperate to see more of the intriguing character and her relationship with the series’ lead.

Pussy Island Will Feature Kravitz in the Chair

Aside from starring in blockbusters, Kravitz also wants to turn her attention to directing her own movies. She wrote Pussy Island with E.T. Feigenbaum and is one of the picture’s producers. Kravitz is set to direct the thriller, which will focus on a cocktail waitress who travels to the private island of a tech mogul before things take a more sinister turn.

Kravitz wrote the picture in 2017, but things didn’t start moving until early 2022. MGM picked up the distribution rights in May, and then the wheels were in motion. The cast members were quickly confirmed, with the likes of Christian Slater and Simon Rex bringing some additional star power. Filming began in June, but there has been no official announcement about a release date yet.

Kravitz Could Soon Become One of Hollywood’s Hottest Properties

Until recently, Kravitz had appeared in various high-budget films, but she’d often been used as a member of the supporting cast. For example, in the Divergent and Fantastic Beasts franchises, she appeared in smaller roles alongside the main stars.

Now that Kravitz has starred as Catwoman, and with her set to direct films as well, she could become one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. She’s only 33 years of age as well, meaning that she is heading into her prime years as an actor.

There’s no doubt that Kravitz is making a name for herself in the movie industry, and her reputation is likely to attract a lot of viewers to Pussy Island. This could be the start of many directorial outings for the Los Angeles-born star.
