Indiana Jones and the Great Circle PS5 Review – A Rip-Roaring Classic

When I reviewed Indiana Jones and the Great Circle last year, I described it as a phenomenal action-adventure game that perfectly captures the essence of an Indiana Jones movie in every way imaginable. Knowing a PlayStation 5 version was imminent left me curious to see what else MachineGames could add to an already exceptional title.

After diving back into this adventure last week, I was quickly reminded of how incredible this game is. I’m glad PlayStation 5 owners will have an opportunity to play it, and I hope we get more games in the future. Here are more thoughts on what to expect if you try it out.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Review

A Globe-Trotting Adventure

Set in 1937, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle revolves around our hero (voiced by Troy Baker) embarking on a dangerous quest to find an ancient power tied to the Great Circle. He forms new alliances and travels across Rome, Thailand, Egypt, Shanghai, and the Himalayas. Indy also has to contend with an equally calculating villain in Emmerich Voss (voiced by Marios Gavrilis), who will stop at nothing to get his way.

As I mentioned in my previous review, the story is phenomenal and fits perfectly between Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, just as intended. Fans of the films will feel like they are playing through a new chapter in the franchise. After you finish, I guarantee you’ll be eager to check out the story expansion DLC The Order of Giants when it drops.

PS5 Pro Enhancements

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has a few noteworthy features that set it apart from the previously released Xbox and PC versions. The DualSense controller has the signature haptic feedback and adaptive triggers you can expect from most titles.

The lightbar briefly displays yellow, red, or green colors depending on whether you’re in combat, low on energy, or have consumed a health item. Implementing these features was smart and will make players feel like they’re a part of the overall experience.

Audio plays a significant role in video games. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is no exception to this rule. Fans can expect full 3D Audio and HD rumble support between cinematic cutscenes and gameplay sequences. Much like how the DualSense makes you feel like you are a part of the action, the audio helps fully immerse you in the world and Indy’s iconic theme music.

PlayStation 5 Pro console owners can expect an even more visually enhanced game with a native 4K resolution running at a fluid 60 FPS. Additional perks like ray-traced global illumination and faster loading times add to the game’s realism, but aren’t strong enough reasons to upgrade solely for this game. If you own a base PlayStation 5 console, you won’t miss out on anything, as the game still looks great.

Final Verdict

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a fantastic action-adventure game that brilliantly honors the legendary hero and his stories. Regardless of which console you decide to play this game on, you should take the time to experience all the greatness that MachineGames has poured their hearts into making this title.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
