Welcome to another episode of Throwdown. On this podcast/vidcast we discuss the latest video game, pop culture, and tech news in an honest and uncompromising fashion.
Shortly after we recorded the last episode of Throwdown, a spark was ignited. A spark which caused a wildfire on the internet. What happened? Valve and Bethesda announced that they would begin to charge people for Skyrim mods on Steam. The folks were not happy and let their outrage be know. Even the former god Gabe Newell was vilified during this conflict which eventually ended with the termination of the paid mod system.
This situation forms the basis of our main topic. We talk about how things went wrong, what the community actually wants with regards to modders getting paid, and how companies should approach this in the future.
For gaming news we talk about the removal of the P.T demo from PSN. This happened due to the whole Kojima/Konami war which has unfortunately claimed the life of what P.T would have become: Silent Hills. We discuss this situation, Konami’s future, and about how companies should let their talent do what they need to do instead of restricting them.
Other gaming topics include: Mighty No. 9 coming to retail with the help of Deep Silver, E3’s first PC gaming conference, and how the PlayStation 4 has sold 22.3 million units so far.
We cover two pop culture items this week. The first is the announcements of a new Dragon Ball Z anime which is headed by series creator Akira Toriyama. What do we expect from this new show? Lastly, we talk about the other thing that broke the internet over the weekend: the official reveal of Jared Leto’s Joker. We discuss the controversy over the character’s appearance and how we think the clown prince of crime will be handled in the DC Cinematic Universe.
