Saint Seiya Soldiers’ Soul Hands-On Preview -The Gold Knights Return

If you’re an old-school anime-head, then you know all about Saint Seiya. If you’re a fan, then you’ll be excited to know that the Saints are making a comeback in a big way. A new anime series was released this year and a new game is also coming over to Steam and PlayStation systems. I got to try out a bit of Saint Seiya Soldiers’ Soul for the PlayStation 4 and found it to be a pretty stylish fighting game.

I hate to admit it, but I’m not well versed in the world of Saint Seiya, even though I’ve always wanted to check out the series. I know the characters from what I’ve seen online, so when I was in the character select screen, I picked the “main” dude of the series (Pegasus Seiya) since I figured he’d be the most balanced character to play with.

The game ran at 60fps on PS4 so the whole experience was silky smooth. I wasn’t sure which button combinations did what exactly, but the game was easy to figure out with just a short amount of time playing it. I was able to do some cool looking moves and my opponent also dished out a few equally impressive attacks on me as well. I think it’s safe to assume that a lot of the moves seen on screen are taken directly from the anime since they all looked very flashy and impressive. Doing aerial combos was pretty fun too, and I liked how you could fight up close or from far away by throwing energy beams at each other.

Soldiers’ Soul will feature the story line from the Twelve Zodiac Temples arc, the battles against Hades, and more. There won’t be any English voice overs, but the original Japanese, Spanish, and Portuguese voice actors will reprise their roles. The game will include English, Spanish, and Portuguese subtitles. The game will have a large roster of characters to chose from, and you can play with friends online or with couch co-op.

Unfortunately, my time with Saint Seiya Soldiers’ Soul was short but I did enjoy what I got to play. I’m sure that fans of the series will get a kick out of playing as their favorite characters and reliving the series’ greatest moments with the 3D cinematic cutscenes that have been added.

Saint Seiya Soldiers’ Soul will be released for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and Steam later this year.
