After confirming that Batgirl would be a DLC character for Injustice: Gods Among Us last week, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment decided to reveal an official gameplay trailer for the character this morning.
This news comes fresh off the presses after rumors of additional DLC characters started circulating around the web shortly after the game’s launch in April. The video above pits Batgirl against Joker as she attempts to get revenge on him for having paralysed her in the past. After having a look at the character and her finishing superpower ability, I’m not entirely impressed by her and still find myself questioning why she is being added to this game in the first place. With an endless array of DC characters that NetherRealm could have used instead, Batgirl ends up feeling like a forced addition and a wasted spot.
If you pay real close attention to the end of this trailer, you’ll notice that once the Injustice logo pops up there is a mention of The Killing Joke DLC also being available soon. For those who are unfamiliar, this was a comic book storyline centered around the Joker and his sadistic attempts to wreak havoc on Gotham City. One could easily conclude that this DLC could simply be character costumes, and we can also confirm that this will be content that won’t be available to season pass owners.
Bringing this concept full circle, I must say that I’m very annoyed that NetherRealm Studios are taking this approach of offering more paid DLC that isn’t already part of the season pass. This is the primary reason why I feel Batgirl is forced because without her The Killing Joke DLC wouldn’t be an option. Still if you’re a hardcore fan of the DC universe, then perhaps buying all the DLC is something you intended to do anyway.
While no release date has been given yet for Batgirl, she is expected to retail for $5.00 ( 400 microsoft points) over Xbox Live arcade and PSN for non season passholders. Lobo is available now at the same pricepoint. Do you plan on downloading Batgirl once she becomes available? Feel free to let us know in the comments section below.
