Back in January I wrote a story about the fascinating tale of Patrice Désilets and his return to Ubisoft from THQ, the story has now taken an even more interesting twist, according to Patrice himself he was today fired by Ubisoft.
The story broke this morning with this statement released by Ubisoft, in which they say that Désilets left the studio himself.
“The acquisition of THQ Montréal in January allowed Ubisoft to welcome 170 experienced developers, including Patrice Désilets, to our existing and renowned workforce,” a representative for the firm stated.
“Unfortunately, since the acquisition, the good faith discussions between Patrice and Ubisoft aimed at aligning Patrice’s and the studio’s visions have been inconclusive. As a result, Patrice has left the studio.”
However later that day the story became less clear and more confusing when Patrice released a statement stating that what Ubisoft said was false, and he was in fact fired by the company. Check out what he had to say below.
“Contrary to any statements made earlier today, this morning I was terminated by Ubisoft, I was notified of this termination in person, handed a termination notice and was unceremoniously escorted out of the building by two guards without being able to say goodbye to my team or collect my personal belongings.
“This was not my decision. Ubisoft’s actions are baseless and without merit. I intend to fight Ubisoft vigorously for my rights, for my team and for my game. ”
I’m sure Ubisoft and Patrice will have more to say on this matter in the coming days but one thing is clear, Patrice and Ubisoft do not get along with each other and he definitely does not work for them anymore. I can’t help but feel bad for Patrice Désilets, he ended up at a company he had previously left, it clearly hasn’t been easy. Hopefully a studio will pick him up soon, he is very talented and deserves to be somewhere great.
Tune in for more ‘Désilets Drama’ (which is what I’m calling it) in the coming months.
