The PlayStation 4 releases in just 28 days and now it has been revealed that you can use your real life name on your online profile straight away.
Don’t worry if you don’t want to include you real name, fortunately this is not a forced option. You can even use a mixture of both your nickname and your username for different parts of your online experience on the PlayStation 4. The thought behind this is that using real life names improves the general behaviour of people online, people who cannot hide behind their anonymous gamertag. Unfortunately using your real name does greatly improve the chance of personal attacks, leading abusers to finding your social media accounts and harassing you there.
This seems to be a direct slam to Microsoft who made quite a big deal about using real names, but that feature won’t even be on the Xbox One until after launch.
This is an interesting dilemma, should people be forced to use their real names in order to improve their behaviour on the PlayStation 4 or do you think that people have the right to anonymity on the internet? Let me know in the comments, I’m intrigued to hear your opinions on the matter.
