Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13 is ‘About 50 Hours’ In Length

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13 is estimated to be about 50 hours long including optional side-quests, according to gameplay director Yuji Abe.

The third game in the Final Fantasy 13 trilogy releases next month in Japan and people have been very interested to hear how long the game will be, especially since many were disappointed in FF XIII-2’s length. Abe spoke with IGN, where he revealed the length of the game:

“It isn’t quite as short as you’d think. Overall, when I did the test plays during the development period, I played through from start to finish trying to see almost all of the aspects of the game and it took roughly about 50 hours.

I personally think that 50 hours is a great time for the full length of a Final Fantasy game, I know people online are going to be upset about this but I think they must be crazy people. Having played and finished both previous Final Fantasy 13 games I think that 50 hours is more than enough to keep people entertained, I’d even go as far as saying that any more would be overkill and that the gameplay would become boring and repetitive after that long.

I managed to play some Lightning Returns at Eurogamer Expo last month and I was very impressed by the visuals and improved battle system so I am very much looking forward to the game next year. Write a comment below if you are looking forward to the final game in the trilogy, do you think 50 hours is a good length?
