6 PS4 Games That Will Define The Console In 2014

On November 15th, Sony kicked off the next-gen console party early when they debuted the PS4 at various retailers across North America. While this remarkable piece of hardware is currently cheaper than the Xbox One, the fact of the matter is that their launch lineup was noticeably the weaker of the two.

However, everything is expected to change significantly when Sony launches several highly anticipated games on their new console later this year. To illustrate this point further, I decided to create a list of 6 PS4 games that will define the console in 2014. These picks are based on games that we already know about and how they can potentially impact Sony moving forward.

rapture

6) Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture

This upcoming first-person adventure game has been referred to as the spiritual successor to Dear Esther. Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture will be a story driven game that is based around six different characters telling their own experiences during the apocalypse.

In theory, there are several other indie titles that could have easily taken this spot on my list. The main reason why Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture gets that nod though is because it is one of the few indie games that can only be experienced on the PlayStation 4. Hopefully this means Sony will influence their decisions and help make this game the best that it can be on the platform.

deepdown

5) Deep Down

This Capcom and SCE Japan Studio developed multiplayer RPG has the potential to become a very big deal on the PS4 platform. Known primarily as a free-to-play online dungeon crawler, Deep Down still remains an intriguing title despite all the mystery behind it.

Capcom already proved that they are comfortable creating new IPs when they released Dragon’s Dogma and Remember Me over the course of the last few years. Deep Down could essentially be another new IP that ends up exceeding any and all expectations set beforehand.

driveclub

4) Driveclub

When Sony confirmed the Driveclub delay, many gamers were left with mixed emotions about the promising racing title. Some diehard Sony fanboys claimed that Gran Turismo was a better franchise and thus they weren’t really looking forward to this new game anyway.

Given that Driveclub was originally expected to be a PS4 launch title, all of the pressure in now on Evolution Studios to deliver a top-notch product. Even if Driveclub doesn’t end up being quite as good as the GT series, it still needs to be decent enough to justify the delay it suffered in the first place.

3) The Order: 1886

Ready at Dawn’s intriguing action-adventure game is another title that has been highly talked about but rarely seen by the public. Taking inspirational cues from Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, The Order: 1886 is set to take place during an alternate version of the nineteenth century and involve a massive war between humans and half-breeds.

In the PS4’s first year on the market, new IPs such as this one have a tremendous upside and can potentially go a long way towards establishing the console’s value to the consumer by way of quality game releases.

2) InFAMOUS: Second Son

InFAMOUS: Second Son is one game that many fans were expecting to launch with the PS4. Sucker Punch Productions are known for creating high quality titles and thus the decision to push this game out further will be well worth it in the end.

Even though Sony has shown us several trailers from their upcoming exclusive, many questions are still lingering over certain aspects of the game. Senior Editor David Jagneaux speculated on a few things he wants from inFAMOUS: Second Son. Luckily we won’t have to wait too much longer now to see just what Sucker Punch has in store for us all.

Uncharted 4

1) Uncharted 4

From the moment the Uncharted 4 teaser debuted during the GameTrailers PS4 All Access event in November, fans everywhere have been feverishly looking for more information on Nathan Drake’s next adventure. While details are still scarce at the moment, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out just how important the Uncharted series is to the PlayStation brand.

While many will say that they want a sequel to The Last of Us, it’s important to note that that game wouldn’t have been possible if Uncharted wasn’t made first. Naughty Dog has an impressive track record of creating impressive titles and it’s for that very reason that Uncharted 4 is easily the most important game for the company this year.

Which PS4 Games are you looking forward to most?

This concludes my list on 6 PS4 games that will define the console in 2014. Do you agree or disagree with any of the games that I have mentioned? Do you feel there are other PS4 games that deserve to be on this list? Please feel free to let us know in the comments section below.
