The Best Games of 2014: March Releases

After being exposed to a slow drought of video game releases over the last few months, gamers everywhere are poised to have a very busy month in March. With high profile releases like Infamous: Second Son, South Park: The Stick of Truth, Dark Souls II, and Titanfall all headed our way, it’s clear that everyone is destined to be broke by month’s end. Below is a short list of 12 blockbuster games that should keep you all preoccupied as the weeks go on.

South Park: The Stick of Truth is an upcoming RPG based of the wildly popular animated TV show created by Matt Stone and Trey Parker. With both Obsidian Entertainment and the original show creators on board, this comical RPG is easily one of this year’s most anticipated games. If you’re a fan of South Park and RPGs, then picking up this game is an absolute no-brainer.

The Walking Dead : Season Two “All That Remains” finally allowed us to experience the zombie apocalypse through the eyes of Clementine. “A House Divided” intends to continue this exploration by showing us that not even adults can be trusted. While Telltale hasn’t given a firm release date yet, it is highly likely that this episode will launch during the first week of March.

When the original Dark Souls launched way back in 2011, it was classified as one of the most challenging Action RPGs on the planet. With Dark Souls II, From Software fully intend to kick things up a notch and give diehard fans the ultimate challenge that they have been waiting for. If you’re looking for an Action RPG that will push you to your limits, then Dark Souls II is your best bet.

Titanfall is a mech-inspired first-person shooter multiplayer game being developed by Respawn Entertainment exclusively for the Xbox One, PC, and Xbox 360. This game is currently being looked upon as Microsoft’s newest IP and the killer app for the Xbox One. If you’re a fan of first-person shooters, then you owe it to yourself to pick up Titanfall when it hits stores the second week of March.

Yoshi’s New Island is the sequel to both Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island and Yoshi’s Island DS. The game will focus on Yoshi escorting babies and eating enemies to create egg projectiles.If you’re a diehard Yoshi fan and a 3DS owner, then this game was made just for you.

Final Fantasy fans are still recovering from the release of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII earlier this month. Now that Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster is coming to both the Vita and PS3, there will be even more content to keep fans busy for hours and days on end. If you enjoyed both of the original games in the series, then you’ll definitely enjoy all of the bonus content that both of these games have to offer.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will serve as the prologue to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. While many have criticized the length of this game, diehard fans of the series know that Kojima will deliver an experience that will far exceed any and all expectations. I’ll also add that the game has received a next-gen price cut and is even more of a reason why you should plan to buy it now.

Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z is a different take on the franchise and revolves around a ninja who is reborn as a cyborg and has to battle through zombies and mutated creatures in order to exact his revenge against Ryu Hayabusa. If you’re a fan of Ninja Gaiden and other hack and slash combat games, then you may want to check this out.

Ever since the PS4 launched way back in November, fans have been waiting for the definitive AAA exclusive game to play on their next-gen console. Infamous: Second Son is currently poised to be that game and may very well deliver on all the hype that has been placed before it. With a new protagonist in Delsin Rowe and several new powers to explore, this could essentially be the best Infamous game yet.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls is the lengthy expansion pack to Diablo III. This popular Action RPG series gained even more fans when it launched on the PS3 and Xbox 360 last year. If you’re a fan of the franchise, then do yourself a favor a pick this up on day one.

Smite is a third person multiplayer online battle arena game created by the same team that brought us Tribes: Ascend. The game allows players to take on the role of mythological gods and participate in brutal arena combat contests with each other. If you’re into MOBA games, then this might be worth exploring.

Release Date: March 25th (North America) March 21st (Europe)

The Witch and the Hundred Knight is a unique Action RPG created by the same team behind the Disgaea games. The game originally launched in Japan last year before finally making it’s way over here. If you enjoy playing stylized Action RPGs with intriguing characters and gameplay, then this title might be right up your alley.
