GamersGate CEO Says Online Retailer Not Affiliated With GamerGate Movement

Written by on

GamersGate is an online video game retailer that sells digital versions of games. GamerGate is a movement created to expose corruption in the video game industry. The two couldn’t be more different aside from how similar their names sound. This similarity however has been causing the online store some grief lately as it as been flooded by “threats and harsh words” because of the misplaced connection.

GamersGate CEO Theodore Bergqvist put out a press release which explained that his company has nothing to do with the GamerGate movement:

Announcement: GAMERSGATE.COM is NOT Gamergate!

As many of you are aware of, recently there has been a fierce and infected discussion about sexism as well as journalistic ethics in the gaming industry. We’ve received threats and harsh words from around the world and want to make it clear for everyone that is not part of this controversy whatsoever.

Next year celebrate our 10th anniversary and since start we have been selling games for download. We are one of the original download platforms and we do our best to support gamers so that they can buy and download games to good prices. Anytime, anywhere.

Theodore Bergqvist. CEO –

Like I said in my most recent editorial, this whole GamerGate movement has become a big mess. This is why I have now started to distance myself from it despite the fact that I was initially a huge supporter of it. The fact that it’s so disorganized with no clear goal in mind is why incidents like this happen and will continue to happen.
