Bethesda’s latest open-world romp, Fallout 4, is enjoying quite a bit of success since it was released this past Tuesday. Today on their site, the developer has detailed just how successful the game has been.
Fallout 4 has shipped approximately 12 million copies worldwide and is “generating record breaking sales at retail outlets and via digital download for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC,” according to Bethesda. Those sales, combined with the Fallout 4 Pip-boy Edition, represent sales of over $750 million total.
Launch day sales at some leading retailers were reportedly the largest of any game in 2015. On Steam, Fallout 4 became the number one game played, with a record-breaking 470,000 concurrent players. Twitch has also reported that it is the most viewed game of 2015.
“We’re extremely proud of Todd Howard, Game Director at Bethesda Game Studios, and his experienced team of developers for their talent and dedication in creating this extraordinary game,” said Vlatko Andonov, President of Bethesda Softworks. “Fallout 4 is a masterpiece in game development and storytelling, providing fans hundreds of hours of fun as they explore and are challenged by this fascinating, beautifully crafted world.”
Todd Howard himself said: “A huge thanks to our fans that’ve made this all possible,” said Todd Howard, Game Director on Fallout 4. “After four years of development, it’s not complete until our fans get to play it and make it their own. We can’t wait to hear about their adventures.”
While 12 million shipped units is indeed impressive, that number isn’t the amount that was bought by consumers. Nevertheless, it shows the great demand for the game. Despite shipping so many units, Bethesda is prepared to ship more copies to meet the demand.
