Mighty No. 9 Delayed Due to Bugs With its Online Features

A few weeks ago, I posted a story about how Mighty No. 9 may have been delayed to 2016. This was after retailers like Amazon and Walmart listed the game to be releasing in 2016 and not this year. Since the digital version of the game was still date for 2015, it was still unclear if the game was officially delayed or not.

Thanks to an email sent to backers of the game, we now have solid confirmation that the game won’t be released this year.

“We are unable to confirm a final release date at this time, however we will be aiming for a release in Q1 2016,” says the email. “Once a solid release date is set, we will announce it immediately to our backers and fans.”

This is disappointing news in and of itself, however, the actual reason for the delay is something which has caused many (myself included) to become very angry.

“Of course, it is important to explain why exactly the game is being delayed,” the email continues. “As we have communicated in the updates to our backers, all of the core content for the game is developed and in a complete state. However, there are still bugs and issues pertaining to the online features that are included in the game. These bugs and issues have a direct affect on enjoyment of the game, so a decision was made to work these issues out before release.”

This game is a spiritual successor to Mega Man, a game which traditionally has been an offline game. While it’s good that the team are working hard to resolve any issues with bugs, the fact that those bugs are from the online portion of the game is what is infuriating. It would have made more sense to release the main game, which is supposedly finished, and then add the online features later. I doubt anyone would be missing them since this is a game people want to play for its single-player mode.
