PlayStation 4 Outsells Xbox One During November NPDs

November NPDs are slowly beginning to roll in, which means we get our first look at who “won” the month. This month, Sony kept on rolling as they won what can be called one of the two most important months for video game sales. Despite trying to give itself a leg up in sales by offering tons of bundles and having the seasons biggest exclusive, Microsoft still couldn’t outsell Sony.

As a whole, eight generation consoles (Wii U, Xbox One, PS4) sales rose by 22 percent compared to last year, and last generation system sales dropped by a whopping 76%. All this means, however, is something that we’ve already known: gamers are finally ready to move on to the newer consoles.

Nintendo saw some nice growth in the number of amiibo units sold in November, selling over 1.2 million units. This brings the total lifetime sales of amiibo figures pass 11 million sold since their official launch of the figures last year.

Moving on to software, it’s important to note that the NPD’s reports are solely based on physical retailers. That means digital and used sales do not account for any of the standings, so take the list with a slight grain of salt. That being said, this one is definitely a surprising one.

  1. Call of Duty: Black Ops III (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3, PC)
  2. Fallout 4 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  3. Star Wars: Battlefront (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  4. Madden NFL 16 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3)
  5. NBA 2K16 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3)
  6. FIFA 16 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3)
  7. Need For Speed (PS4, Xbox One)
  8. Halo 5: Guardians (Xbox One)
  9. Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  10. Just Dance 2016 (Wii, Wii U, 360, Xbox One, PS4, PS3)

As you can see from the list above, there’s one game that doesn’t even crack the top 10, and that’s Rise of the Tomb Raider. Without sugarcoating it, that game is widely considered to be one of the best games of not only the year, but of the Xbox Ones history. Sadly for Microsoft, the idea to make the game exclusive (at first) to the Xbox did not work as intended, as it didn’t even sell enough to beat games that had been out for months prior. In fact, the only console exclusive game to make the top 10 is Halo 5: Guardians.

As for the rest of the list, there isn’t to much deviation from what you’d expect. Call of Duty: Black Ops III took the top spot in a month where millions of people will be getting systems to play it. Fallout 4 and Star Wars: Battlefront round out the top 3 before giving way t a series of sports/racing titles.
