Earlier today, SCEA VP of Marketing John Koller revealed in a PlayStation blog post that the PS4 will be receiving a $50 dollar price drop in both North America and Canada starting on October 9th. This means that consumers will now be able to pickup a PS4 this holiday season for only $349.99 in the US and $429.99 in Canada.
In addition to this announcement, Koller also revealed that several PS4 bundles will also be impacted by this price cut. Below is a quick overview of the new price listings by region for each console.
Xbox Head Phil Spencer predicted this move shortly after a price drop was announced in Japan and Europe. It was also suggested that this would happen due to a leaked Target ad that revealed the price cut earlier this week. Now that this is a reality, it will be interesting to see how this changes the landscape of the holiday season. There is absolutely no doubt that Halo 5: Guardians will give the Xbox One a significant boost in sales, but Sony definitely aims to shake things up with today’s news.
Are any of you surprised by this price cut? Is it safe to say that the PS4 will definitely outsell the Xbox One now this holiday season? Please feel free to let us know your thoughts on the matter and more in the comments section below.
