Final Fantasy XV Getting Free Assassin’s Creed DLC

In the latest in a series of odd DLC, Final Fantasy XV is getting free Assassin’s Creed Origins DLC to promote the upcoming game.

Entitled the “Assassin’s Festival”, it follows the group of 4 into a festival themed all around the Assassin’s Creed franchise. You read that right. Lestallum’s citizens are dressed in all sorts of Assassins garb, complete with hay bales to leap in and parkour to be done.

Noctis now has the assassination skills and weapons of Ezio and will be using them against the Magitek guards in a brand new story. Hidden blade stealth kills and air assassinations will be frequent.

The DLC will be free to all players on August 30th, with those who received the Dream Egg from the Moogle Carnival getting an Assassin coat for Noctis and crew. The next day the festival starts and will run until January 31st, 2018.

While this seems to be a completely random event, this is actually the result of a couple years work. According to a Ubisoft blog post, the collaboration between Ubisoft and Square Enix has been ongoing for almost three years. The two development teams had an unofficial meeting at Tokyo Game Show a couple years back to praise the other’s work.

This collaboration has been hinted at a couple of times, with easter eggs hidden in the Final Fantasy XV trailer from November 2016, the Origins announcement trailer, and the recent Origins Gamescom trailer. A piece of artwork with each games’ main characters holding a weapon from the other’s world was revealed to promote this project.

Assassin’s Creed Origins will release on October 27th for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
