Yellowstone prequel 1923 season is upon us and Paramount+ has released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming series starring Harrison Ford and Dame Helen Mirren.
As seen in the trailer above, marketed as a “Yellowstone origin story,” this new entry is an early 20th-century generation of the Dutton family. In addition to the news, a trailer was released during the fifth season premiere of Yellowstone on the Paramount Network.
From showrunner Taylor Sheridan 1923 follows patriarch Jacob (Ford) and matriarch Cara (Mirren) as they explore “the early 20th century, when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west, and the Duttons who call it home.”
1923 is Sheridan’s second Yellowstone origin story series following 1883, which launched in 2021 and told the story of how the Duttons traveled from Texas to what would become the family homestead in Montana, Yellowstone. That limited series is currently streaming on Paramount+.
This marks the first time the 80-year-old Indiana Jones and Star Wars star has led a dramatic television series. The 77-year-old Mirren’s prior credits include Prime Suspect and HBO’s Catherine the Great miniseries. She earned a best actress Oscar for her role in 2007’s The Queen.
The limited series also stars Darren Mann (Animal Kingdom), Michelle Randolph (A Snow White Christmas), James Badge Dale (Hightown), Marley Shelton (Scream), Brian Geraghty (Big Sky), Aminah Nieves (Blueberry) and Jerome Flynn (Game of Thrones).
While 1923 is a Paramount+ original, the debut episode of the show will air on Paramount Network on December 18th immediately after a new episode of Yellowstone to entice viewers to subscribe to the streaming service to keep watching. The second episode will also air on Paramount Network on Janurary 1st.
The series will premiere on Monday, December 19th, on Paramount+ in the U.K. and Australia. Premiere dates for other Paramount+ international markets will be announced at a later date.
