Here, we look at some of the best online video games based on TV shows. Check it out and see if your favorite show has been turned into a video game.

Total Video-Games

We’ve all seen how video game adaptations typically work. There are countless sub-par titles with the names of genuinely great shows plastered across their cases, seen as little more than an easy cash-in on the success of a movie or TV show, and fans have learned to expect the worst. Therefore many of these titles are ignored before they are even played, and people tend to stick to their favorite RPG, sports games, or online bingo slots; I can’t get enough of them!

Film-to-video-game adaptations are common these days, but it’s not just Hollywood looking to make a quick buck from a movie-to-video-game tie-in. Television studios have been producing games based on popular television shows for years. But, for some reason, these adaptations don’t get as much attention as film-to-game tie-ins, so we decided to honor some of the best video games based on television shows.

Game of Thrones

Before we go any further, we know what you’re thinking: the Game of Thrones TV show borrows from George R.R. Martin’s novels. You are correct! However, we’ve included it because Telltale’s Game of Thrones video game is based on the TV show. The Game of Thrones Telltale series introduces a completely new storyline set within HBO’s Game of Thrones universe. It revolves around House Forrester, a minor noble house best known for its substantial ironwood tree groves in Westeros. The Forresters are House Stark supporters, and the game starts at the end of the TV show’s “Red Wedding.”

The Walking Dead

Based on Robert Kirkman’s same-name comic book series, both the television show and the game occur in a fictional world overrun by zombie apocalypses. The Walking Dead is an episodic adventure game in which the protagonist, Lee Everett, assists in rescuing a young girl named Clementine while also attempting to stay alive amid the zombie onslaught. The game, primarily concerned with story and character development, allows players to influence the plot through dialogue choices and actions taken during specific events, which can result in different circumstances varying from episode to episode.

South Park

The PC and PlayStation 3 versions of this game received the highest ratings. It is a role-playing adventure that was released in 2014. It was not only highly rated by Metacritic but also received numerous near-perfect ratings from publications. The game is open-world and contains countless inside jokes for its fans. In addition, it has numerous references to the show. It was popular enough that a sequel was released in 2017 and received positive reviews.

The Simpsons

The Simpsons: Hit & Run is based on the same-named television show. It follows the Simpson family and their friend Apu as they investigate a series of strange incidents in Springfield. The GTA series inspired the game. It incorporates many of the series’ mechanics, such as a police system and an open-world design. The game, released on the Gamecube, PlayStation 2, and original Xbox, was widely praised and is considered a classic by many gamers.

Narcos

Narcos: Rise of the Cartels, based on the hit Netflix show, transports you to 1980s Colombia, where El Patrón’s empire has been lit, its influence spanning borders, and its expansion unabated. Power and corruption are rampant, with cops, guards, politicians, and everyone in between falling into the hands of the Medellin Cartel. In this turn-based strategy game, you will experience the war from both sides in two distinct campaigns. Choose between siding with the DEA and fighting alongside Steve Murphy to bring down the drug empire or siding with the Narcos and helping to found, grow, and expand the empire under El Patrón’s watchful eye.
