Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival Video Game Based on the Movie Franchise Is in Devlopment

Have you ever longed for a Clive Barker’s Hellraiser video game adaptation? Saber Interactive and Boss Team Games is granting your wish as they are currently developing a video game based on the movie franchise.

Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival will be a single-player, survival horror action game, that will “put players face-to-face against the legendary Pinhead, with actor Doug Bradley returning to the role for the first time in nearly two decades.”

As seen in the announcement trailer above, inspired by the first two Hellraiser movies, Revival will draw from their atmosphere, themes, and mythos. While the plot is not directly connected to the movies, it’ll be a new story set within the Hellraiser universe – one that stays true to its lore while offering a fresh and terrifying experience for both longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Fans of the movie franchise can expect to see, The Genesis Configuration, which will be serving as both a catalyst for the story and a key gameplay element. The Cenobites will be portrayed with all their complexity, from their unsettling designs to their intricate motivations. A thematic balance between pain and pleasure, which defines the Hellraiser universe, while also exploring the depths of human desire, temptation, and the voids people seek to fill – elements that add psychological depth and horror beyond just the physical realm.

Clive Barker has been involved with the game since its inception, guiding the team and providing an “intimate understanding of the Hellraiser universe’ which “have been instrumental in shaping every aspect of the experience.” From the visual style and story motifs to the lore and character personalities, his creative input has ensured that the game remains authentic to the spirit of Hellraiser. “He has worked closely with us, helping to refine our ideas so that they align seamlessly with his original vision, making this game a true extension of his dark and imaginative world.”

“Working on the first true ‘Hellraiser’ game has been a venture deep into the recesses of my darkest imaginings,” Barker said. “The dedication that Saber and Boss Team Games have shown is nothing short of remarkable. They’ve immersed themselves in the ‘Hellraiser’ universe, capturing its essence—the seductive pull of suffering, the beauty within the grotesque—and forged a narrative that invites players to step beyond the threshold. I’m eager for both the curious and the damned to experience this new chapter in the ‘Hellraiser’ mythos, where every moment balances on the brink of nightmare and revelation.”

Saber Interactive CEO and co-founder Matthew Karch added: “‘Hellraiser’ is the quintessential horror franchise, and lends itself perfectly to a video game. Saber has had success with horror IPs in the past, and working alongside Clive to create tense gameplay and a new story that delves into the twisted depths of pain and pleasure has been a real treat. We look forward to opening up the gates of hell.”

Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam.
