Mortal Kombat Movie Spoilerkast Review

Almost 30 years after Mortal Kombat transformed the fighting game landscape forever, an R-rated reboot of the film franchise based on the games has finally arrived in theaters and on HBO Max for 30 days. Hunted by the fearsome warrior Sub-Zero, MMA fighter Cole Young finds sanctuary at the temple of Lord Raiden. Training with experienced fighters Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and the rogue mercenary Kano, Cole prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions to take on the enemies from Outworld in a high-stakes battle for the universe.Simon McQuoid makes his directorial debut with a script by Greg Russo and Dave Callaham featuring fan favorites Raiden, Liu Kang, Kano, Mileena, Goro, Scorpion, Sonya Blade, Shang Tsung, Lung Lao, and more.

Warner Bros’ Mortal Kombat features combo fighting moves pulled directly from the games, character-based catchphrases, and even a few famous fatalities. While the movie’s trailer alluded to there being showdowns that will appeal to people who have played all of the games it includes classic match-ups dragging out for almost 110 minutes.

In our video discussion above we break down the movie, address how it compares to previous movies and video games while theorizing what the potential sequel could bring.
