When 90 day Fiancé’s Angela Deem and Michael Ilesanmi first locked eyes on-screen, they described it as “love at first sight.” It was a moment in time when nothing else matter but the unmatched chemistry between the two.
Not only did their love attract audience members but they gain a huge 90 Day Fiancé following of people who just wanted to see more of their love while hoping Michael would be approved for a K-1 visa.
Even though their dreams of reuniting in America is on hold, the ups and downs of their relationship are only getting started as “Meemaw” Angela, who’s been showing off a dramatic 90-pound weight loss in her IG page, finally married her long-time Nigerian love in 2020.
Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, Angela and Michael have lived a long-distance married life for more than a year. But this isn’t stopping the unfiltered couple from achieving wedded bliss as their journey will continue in 90 Day Fiancé Happily Ever After? 6th season.
The Koalition spoke to Michael to find out about newlywed life, how he and Angela still keep manage to keep some things private, how to a long-distance marriage work, Aunt Lydia’s protests, cheating rumors and more.
“There are very little benefits of being in a long-distance marriage, though it helps to know each other well and to also discuss various issues for the long run. While there can be many complications when trust issues set in, only a strong-minded partner can be in a long-distance marriage, it’s not a child’s play. As long as there is love between both partners they will definitely stay together until they live together.”
“We let it all out there, though there are some private things we kept to ourselves. At the beginning it was difficult for me but in past few years I’ve gotten used to it since our relationship is out in the world. With God all things are possible.. we’re managing haha.”
As seen in the trailer above, the cheating rumors are flying once again by Angela who wants to put a tracking devices on his phone. However, it seems like the rumors are closer to home as Michael’s friends have something about it. However, this could be fueled by jealous as Michael still has to convince others his relationship with Angela is very much real, despite his friends wanting the couple to break up. Michael insist he loves his wife and will forever stand by her no matter what others have to say.
“The issue is that most of them didn’t believe I would go this long with my wife Angie…they thought it was just for the green card, which everybody kept saying, but the love I have for her is more than that, and Angie knows this as well. So at this point or stage in my life, I don’t care what people say. Yes, there are misunderstandings between us but still we get along. I’m part of my wife’s family and the grandkids all love me. I do things for them even while I am here in Nigeria. Since I’ve been with my wife Angie nothing like cheating has happened with me because I love my wife and, like I said before, one wife is all I want.”
While there is plenty of love between Angela and Michael, not everyone in Michael’s family is as accepting. Aunt Lydia was very vocal last season what Angela’s role in the household and as a wife, much to Angela’s chagrin. From Aunt Lydia’s stance on polygamy to childbirth, there were multiple exchanges at last season’s reunion that left fans speechless. However, Michael isn’t phased and is only more determined to take his wife’s side.
“Well I can’t really say but I know [Aunt Lydia] loves my wife because they all support me. At the end of the day it is what it is, she’s my wife and nothing can change that.”
People will always have a lot to say about the couple and for years fans have seen their relationship tackle age, racial and cultural differences. No matter what challenges they face this season, it is only meant to strengthen their bond.
“Oh yes, we both have gone through a lot regarding that but as time goes by we adjust to the differences and understand ourselves and that we are still learning. I have learned a lot since appearing on 90 Day Fiancé. I have been disciplined and up front and I have also been bold in facing obstacles that come my way.”
While love, a long-distance marriage and reapplying for a K-1 visa during a pandemic can present its challenges, the one thing Michael and Angela can agree on is American foods and music.
“Oh yes, I love American music, I have always listened to a few artists even before I met my wife. Regarding the food, she introduced me to eat Chinese food and steak.”
