I’m pretty sure nobody was expecting Batman: Arkham Asylum to be as amazing as it was, I know I certainly wasn’t! The Dark Knight may be able to singlehandedly police an entire city but having his name attached to a decent game seemed just out of his league. With Arkham Asylum, The UK based Rocksteady Studios proved that a licensed game could also be a game of the year candidate and now they’re attempting to make lightning strike twice. Just four months after Arkham Asylum’s release, Rocksteady shocked the world by releasing a trailer for its sequel; suffice to say the internet went crazy! Some cried foul as they had just spent 60 bucks on the first game while others cried tears of joy, praising Rocksteady for giving them a second chance to become the Caped Crusader in a game that didn’t suck.
At this point, not much of known about Arkham City but the story (which takes place a year after the first game) see’s Arkham expand from a mere asylum to a mini city, Giving Batman more work than he bargained for. Unfortunately for Bats, Joker and Harley Quinn are both returning, as is The Riddler who will once again populate the environment with whimsical riddles for you to solve. New villains confirmed so far include Two-Face, Mr. Freeze, Mr Zsasz and Calendar Man with more to be announced at a later date. For better or for worse a Multiplayer mode (featuring Catwoman?) will also be included but exact details are scarce at the moment. Arkham City has the potential to become the most successful comic-based game ever made, both critically and commercially. I can’t wait to find out if it succeeds!
