Welcome to another episode of Throwdown. On this podcast/vidcast we discuss the latest video game, pop culture, and tech news in an honest and uncompromising fashion.
Rumors began circulating today that legendary Metal Gear producer Hideo Kojima will be leaving Konami at the end of the year. This has since been confirmed by an anonymous source who spoke to Gamespot. Though it isn’t official yet, all the signs point to this being a fact.
Since we’re all huge fans of the series, this obviously meant that it would be our main topic for this week’s show. What does Kojima’s departure from Konami mean for the Metal Gear franchise and the company which published it? What will the heads of Kojima Productions do after their contact with Konami is up? We try to answer these questions and many more.
The other big news that happened in gaming was Nintendo‘s announcement that it has partnered with DeNa to produce mobile versions of Nintendo games. This is something that industry analysts have suggested Nintendo do and it seems they have finally listened. On top of that, the company plans to unveil their plans for a new home console next year. This is odd considering that the Wii U hasn’t been out for that long. What does all this mean for Nintendo’s future?
Last on the docket is the recent controversy over a variant cover of the upcoming Batgirl #41. Over the weekend, a Twitter campaign titled #CHANGETHECOVER was born from the outrage over the cover which depicted Batgirl being held by the Joker as he smeared red lipstick across her face. Was the cover pulled because it didn’t fit the lighter tone of the book or because DC Comics caved in to the demands of a few loud protesters?

This episode is special not only because of the topics on hand, but because we have several special guests who we’ve wanted to have on for months.
First up we have our friends Kahlief Adams and Cicero Holmes who are the hosts of the Spawn on Me podcast. This podcast not only covers the biggest news stories in gaming, but also shines a spotlight on minorities in the gaming industry. Emilio and Tony have been on their show before so we’re all honored to finally have them on Throwdown. Brookago is in the house!
We also have our friend Matthew Dixon who you may know as one of the hosts of the Baby and The Beard Comic Book podcast. We’ve wanted Matthew on the show for a while as well so this is a special occasion indeed.
And of course, let’s not forget our good friend Kristin Carella who really wanted to be on tonight to talk about Nintendo and the Batgirl controversy.
