With two separate visuals in one (“U” directed by Jack Begert & the lil homies, “For Sale?” by PANAM/ERA & the lil homies), Kendrick Lamar gives us yet another solid visual for To Pimp A Butterfly. “U” describes an internal bout with depression and “For Sale?” tackles how glorified elements of celebrity grab at an artist such as Kendrick, so this short film is certainly one of the darker ones to be released. There are a few messages scattered in the 2nd part as well. You’ll have to be quite attentive to catch them, but here are some:
Instagram 2016 = Dussy Unlimted
If I blame you for a loss, I’ll be giving you all the credit
Always Trust A N****A With Cornrolls
Time Is Change. Your Friend or Foe.
There are more and it will be interesting to see how all of Kendrick’s recent videos will be interpreted once we have the full picture. Share your thoughts in the comments below and let us know what you got from this short film and what you hope comes next in 2016.
