Need for Speed is getting a reboot with a new eponymously named title that’ll drop later this year.
“Need for Speed is one of the most iconic names in gaming, and we’re returning it to greatness in this reboot,” says Marcus Nilsson, Executive Producer at Ghost Games. “Pulling on our 20 years of history, and then taking a year out from releasing a game, we are making the game we’ve always wanted to. We’re listening to the fans and delivering an experience that will capture their imagination and unleash their passion for cars and speed.”
We also know that this game is being produced in collaboration with Speed Hunters, a car culture company which was launched by EA to support the NFS franchise.
“Need for Speed has been going through a serious reboot process over the last 18 months,” says Speed Hunters. “While everything is brand new and created from scratch, there has also been deliberate cherry-picking of some of the best bits from the last two decades worth of titles; intense late-night street racing, in-depth customization and genuine car culture all set within a deep, immersive narrative.”
This trailer doesn’t show much but it claims to be pulled from in-game footage. If this turns out to be true, the engine they’re building this game on looks absolutely incredible. Not only that, but the setting of the teaser seems to hint at a return to one of the great NFS titles: Underground.
A full trailer is dated for June 15th so look out for that, but let us know what you think of this tease down in the comments below. Don’t forget to check out some screenshots from the trailer as well.
Need for Speed will launch worldwide this fall for PC , PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
