Well, months ago I posted an article about how this big scandal was not causing harm to the relationship EA had with Tiger. But, with recent news that it may be affecting it’s sales that relationship may start to get a little thin. According to Cowen Group analyst Doug Creutz, the lack of sales for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 during June was because of the bad press from the scandal.
“Although this is probably due in part to the fact that last year’s version shipped bundled with Nintendo’s new Motion Plus controller,” said the analyst, “we are concerned that Woods’ scandal woes may have permanently damaged the sales potential of what we believe to be EA’s third most important sports franchise, behind Madden and FIFA.”
Creutz called the 86% decline in Wii sales and the 68% decline across all platforms “particularly catastrophic.”
I however feel that once this big fiasco is forgotten like every big news story, he will start to regain his brand power. Will it be as powerful as it once was? I don’t think so. But it will still be powerful. Oddly I think his gold performance has the ability to control everything. If he just starts to win again and win big, this will all fade away. And titles like the one of this post will be laughable at some point. Its all in his performance.
Do you feel this scandal has affected the sales?
