My last pick for Throwback Thursday was titled “What’s Up Doc?” so I’m going to keep up with the doctor gimmick and pick a Dr. Dre classic.
Even though it’s Throwback Thursday, I’m choosing “Keep Their Heads Ringin’“ as this weeks pick. This song was made for the soundtrack of the classic movie “Friday”, released in 1995 (which was a very good year for Hip-Hop).
I first heard this song when I bought the “Death Rows Greatest Hits” CD about 10 years ago and it still holds up to today’s music.
One lyric that sticks out to me as very “Lil’ Wayne-esque” is, “I get plenty of ass, call me an ass-tronaut”
However Dr. Dre isn’t credited for writing the song. In the “Death Rows Greatest Hits” booklet, J-Flexx was credited for writing the song (who would later go on to make diss records towards Dre, accusing him of jacking him on Royalties). However, other sources on the internet credit RnB singer Angie Stone for writing the song.
From personal experience, I can say that this song definitely gets people out of their seats. Regardless of who wrote or even produced the song, this song is still a classic.
