For a couple days, around Christmas, both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live were hit with cyber attacks by a group known as Lizard Squad. During this time, Valve’s digital distribution platform, Steam, hit another all time high for concurrent users. Valve’s digital platform had over 8 million users concurrently which goes to show how popular Steam has become in the PC gaming community.
Although this milestone is not too impressive given the 100 million registered user accounts. It goes to show how alive and well PC gaming is. With Steam constantly improving and expanding year-on-year, it makes you question how long until Steam hits 10 million concurrent users?
What’s interesting to note is what games have been played by the community. The top 5 games are rather atypical for the community. We see DOTA 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Team Fortress 2. Another interesting note is that the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare multiplayer had barely 1000 more players than Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, however both combined are still less than the Warframe numbers.
