It was today announced in the Associated Press that the Xbox One will be getting live game streaming in a March 11 update.
The update enables the user to stream their games live onto the internet (viewers can even join the game if they wish) and more importantly the livestreams will be archived, unlike the PS4 livestreams.
Twitch CEO Emmett Shear said of the Xbox One app:
“It’s complete integration. It’s exciting because we’ve never had the ability to broadcast from a console like this with such a deep level of integration. The concept of being able to join a broadcasters’ party is really cool, and it’s another step in the direction of interacting more closely with broadcasters.”
Interestingly it appears that Twitch are making this app, whereas Sony made the PS4 one. This might explain the increased functionality compared to the PlayStation Twitch app. I hope the quality of the streams are good because otherwise it is all pointless. Like on the PS4, this is going to be a big hit. You can also bet a lot of people will be wanting to stream themselves playing Titanfall!
Fortunately you won’t have to wait long for Twitch livestreaming, the update is coming on March 11.
