Today marks the 18th anniversary of the death of The Notorious BIG. He was assassinated on March 9th, 1997 in Los Angeles. To this very day, his murder has remained unsolved. He was 24 years old.
So, TheKoalition.com have decided to celebrate his music by compiling a list of 18 songs from The Notorious BIG‘s library that should be heard by anyone interested in listening to The Notorious BIG, or Hip-Hop in general.
The Notorious BIG can be considered as one of the best to ever drop a hot 16. The quality of his lyricism was always very high, even in his demos before he got a record deal with soon-to-be friend Puff Daddy (or Puffy…or P. Diddy…or Diddy – whatever he’s calling himself this week!) .
Although his career only spanned 5 years he left an undeniable mark on the Hip-Hop music genre.
This playlist contains plenty of his classic singles and if you are aware of The Notorious BIG‘s content then you’ll recognise some of the other tracks from his albums “Ready To Die” and “Life After Death“.
Tracks included are said classic singles consisting of “Juicy“, “Hypnotize“, “Warning“, “Big Poppa” and “One More Chance“.
His classic collaborations with DJ Premier; “Kick In The Door“, “Unbelievable” and “Ten Crack Commandments” are also in the playlist.
“Who Shot Ya?” was regarded as a diss song towards 2Pac during their infamous beef. However, The Notorious BIG always claimed he wrote that song before he and 2Pac had any issues. Regardless of the drama surrounding the song, it is still a Biggie classic and has made it’s way onto the playlist too. His 1993 debut single “Party and Bullshit” is also featured.
We also included two songs where Biggie made featured appearances. Da Brat‘s “B Side” and Craig Mack‘s “Flava In Ya Ear” remix featuring Rampage, LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes.
