Even though Sonic Boom was the worst selling Sonic game of all time, SEGA seems convinced that they can do something with the speedy hedgehog. Earlier today, they announced Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice, a 3DS game that will be coming out later this year.
In the game, you are tasked with harnessing the power of the elements in order to complete levels. The usual Sonic crew return as playable characters, and Dr. Eggman and D-Fekt will be the villains they must stop.
The iconic ‘blue blur,’ Sonic the Hedgehog, will be racing once again in Sonic Boom: Fire & Iceas the game introduces more adventure, speed, exploration, and an all-new fire and ice gameplay element that will help propel the action. The game will also feature the triumphant return of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Sticks.
Developed by Sanzaru Games Inc., Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice is a single player game with collaborative gameplay components that shares key characters, events, and lore of the Sonic Boom universe.
Players will see Sonic and his friends in familiar settings as they embark on a brand new adventure to battle Dr. Eggman as well as an all-new super villain, D-Fekt. The team’s adventures will bring them to locations both familiar and new as they explore, race and protect their world.
In addition, the developers have added Bot Racing into the game. In the racing mode, players can race their friends and unlock custom themed Bots to use for races. Hopefully this game ends up better for SEGA than their previous attempt at Sonic did.
