If you even remotely follow myself and the rest of my Knights of the Turntable cohorts (Rich, Joe Hova, Gary, Matt Dean, Dom, and other guests), you’ll know that a few of us have an incredible appreciation for the Hip Hop scene in Chicago. From Chance the Rapper to Mick Jenkins to Kembe X to Noname Gypsie to Alex Wiley and more, there’s incredible talent to be heard across the board and they’re all enjoying a margin of success in their individual lanes. Now it looks like Vic Mensa is propelling his team into the stratusphere, inking a deal with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.
Chance has risen to unheard of heights for an independent artist and now we get to see one of his frequent collaborators come up as well. With his feature on Kanye West’s “Wolves” and West returning the favor on “U Mad”, it was only a matter of time before Vic Mensa made some waves. Mensa’s mixtape #INNANETAPE was wondrous and one of my favorites of 2013 and it seems things have only moved forward at a rapid pace for the Chicago emcee.
If you aren’t familiar yet, check the two videos embedded and give #INNANETAPE a listen. You’re in for a treat. Look out for his next project Traffic sometime soon. #SaveMoney
