Yarny Brings Adorable Indie-ness to Unravel

Say hello to Unravel, an adorable, physics-based puzzle platformer where you play a little character made of yarn.

From Swedish developer Coldwood Interactive, the yarn unravels as you move, and if you run out of yarn you can’t go on. Your goal is to try to make that yarn reach all the way through the game, from start to finish.

You’ll play as Yarn, a little being made of yarn who unravels the farther away it gets from the things that it loves. The idea kept growing, and the yarn came to represent love, the bond between people. Mend a broken bond or try to help a lonely old woman reconnect with all that she has lost.

In the announcement trailer, the main character slides down the snow in a log toboggan, narrowly getting crushed by a car on a dirt road, and exploring an apple tree. A yarn string, which trails endlessly behind the hero character, can be affixed to certain points in the environment, allowing you to jump higher, cross gaps, affix yourself to a floating kite, and more.

Unravel, looks both heart-warming and captivating, however there’s a sort of sadness to the character that pulls you into the game.

It’s currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. PC version is available for pre-order for $20 via the Origin store.
