The Best Games of 2016: May Releases

So far, 2016 has proven to be a fantastic year for gamers and this trend won’t be dying anytime soon. While Uncharted 4 is the biggest title out this month, standout games like DOOM, Battleborn, and Overwatch are also destined to captivate fans and keep them busy all May long. Below is a list of 9 upcoming video games that should be on your radar over the next 30 days.

Full Title: Battleborn

Release Date: May 3rd

Battleborn is an online first-person shooter that features multiplayer online battle arena elements. With Gearbox Software at the helm of this project, Battleborn offers players 25 unique playable characters, and an objective driven campaign mode that can be played solo or co-operatively with four other players. If you enjoy MOBA games and you’re a diehard fan of Borderlands, then picking up this title is an absolute no-brainer.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is the fourth and final installment in Naughty Dog’s iconic action-adventure series. A Thief’s End takes place several years after Uncharted 3 and revolves around Nathan Drake coming out of retirement for one final adventure with Sully and his older brother Sam. If you’re a PS4 owner and can only afford to buy one game this month, then this absolutely should be your choice.

Goliath is an upcoming survival/action indie title that lets players craft robots to navigate through a hostile environment. The core concept of this game is similar to Don’t Starve but with more of a specific emphasis on combat. The art style looks fantastic and the storyline promises to be just as impressive. If you’re a fan of indie games and you want to try something different, then Goliath might be right for you.

Release Date: May 13th

DOOM is a reboot of the original first-person shooter series and the latest release since the 2004 launch of DOOM 3. This title has been in development since 2008 and has gone through several setbacks leading up to this point. Judging by the video above, it looks like id Software have solved all of their problems and will give us a gory, yet masterful experience later this month. If you’re a fan of mature rated first-person shooters, then you absolutely can’t go wrong with DOOM.

Release Date: May 17th

Homefront: The Revolution is an open world first-person shooter and the sequel to Homefront. The Revolution takes place in 2029 within an alternate timeline and allows the player to lead a resistance movement against the North Korean army. If you enjoyed the first game in this series, then you may also be intrigued by this one.

Overwatch is a futuristic multiplayer first-person shooter and a new IP by Blizzard Entertainment. This squad-based combat game pits teams of six against each other with four variety class types and three different game modes. This title is primarily geared towards fans of multiplayer-only games and is recommended if you’re looking for a group centric competitive experience.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan is an action hack and slash game based on the TMNT franchise and created by the talented team over at Platinum Games. Everyone’s favorite heroes in a half shell find themselves in a war against Shredder and the Foot Clan. Mutants in Manhattan supports both single-player and four-player online cooperative multiplayer. If you’re a fan of this popular franchise, then you’ll definitely get a kick out of this game.

Total War: Warhammer is the 10th title in the popular turn-based strategy series and the start of a new trilogy with a fantasy setting. Unlike previous entries in the franchise, players will now be able to use monsters in one of four new factions. If you’re a fan of real-time tactical games and the Total War franchise, then you’ll definitely love what this title has to offer.

One Piece: Burning Blood is the latest installment in the anime inspired fighting game series and the first official One Piece release on an Xbox console. Burning Blood includes an advanced battle system and 40 playable fighters to choose from. If you’re a fan of fighting games and the anime series, then you might want to give this title a shot.
