Earlier today, Shenmue III Director, Producer and Writer Yu Suzuki confirmed in a Kickstarter update post that the long-awaited sequel has been delayed until late 2018. The game was originally expected to launch in December of this year on both PlayStation 4 and PC. Below is a quick statement by Suzuki and the team as to why the game is being pushed back further.
“By utilizing new technologies, we have been able to discover new possibilities and expressions. In many ways, the game has become bigger and more beautiful than I initially expected. We do, however, need more time to deliver the game to you.”
This news should come as no surprise to anyone because it was stated a few weeks ago that Shenmue III wouldn’t be at E3 2017. In hindsight, this delay is for the best because it assures that everyone will get the high quality game that they deserve in the end. I’ll also add that it will be very interesting to see if PlayStation releases any of their other major titles this Fall.
Are any of you disappointed that Shenmue III won’t be out till 2018? Please feel free to let us know your thoughts on the delay and more in the comments section below.
