Okay, I have to admit. Sometimes I’m a tough critic. Like for instance, on the latest episode of The Co-op Podcast, I totally ripped the casting of Henry Cavill in The Witcher Netflix series to shreds. Some would say I’m as hard to please as my fellow Brit, Simon Cowell. But I’m adamant that there are better choices to play Geralt; and being that I’m a man of my word, I’ve decided to come up with a list of five.
To keep this sort of realistic, I’ve tried to steer clear of A List actors who would likely be too high for the budget of the show. The key word here is “tried”. Whether you agree or disagree with the list, your comments are welcome.
Top 5 Actors Who Should Play Geralt in The Witcher Netflix Series
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau
Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is known for playing Jaime Lannister in HBO’s Game of Thrones. Not only does he have the looks, the physique and the charm to carry off Geralt as we know him, but he did also don the long hair that we associate with our favorite bounty hunter. Just dye his hair white and he’s the perfect fit.
Norman Reedus
Norman Reedus 100% has the look to play Geralt. He just needs to…You guessed it, dye his hair the right color. At this point, he’s probably the biggest reason why people still watch The Walking Dead. So before Hideo Kojima turns him into even more of a pop culture phenomenon, Netflix should grab him now.
Benedict Cumberbatch
Yes yes, I know. At this point Benedict is probably an A-Lister. But he’s still heavily involved in TV as we wait on another series of Sherlock. While Sherlock may not have much life left in it, it would be the perfect time for him to be Netflix’s lead star in The Witcher. I’m sure he could find a spare six months to film between Marvel movies. Right?
Kit Harington
Okay, I know I’m digging deep into the Game of Thrones pool for this. But aesthetically, it’s the closest idea to the show that we envision The Witcher being. If there’s one surefire way to boost the female viewership of The Witcher once it hits Netflix, its to cast the Game of Thrones heart throb as Geralt. It’s clear that Kit has a long career ahead of him after Game of Thrones, so TV producers might as well nab him up now.
Jason Momoa
Yes, Game of Thrones, I know. But considering Jason Mamoa is also in the DC Universe alongside Henry Cavill, I could argue that he’s probably more deserving of the role. He completely looks the part and I feel that he has more of that strong, calculated alpha male appeal. He also looks incredibly good for his age of 39, without also looking too young at the same time.
