If you’re going to call your movie Last Dance, then you better go full out and that’s just what director Steven Soderbergh has promised. In Magic Mike’s Last Dance, Soderbergh revealed the film ends with a massive dance sequence exceeding half an hour. Think Step Up with less clothing.
“We wanted to blow the dancing up in a big way,” Soderbergh said in a new interview with Empire Magaine. “We have this dance number with Channing [Tatum] and Salma [Hayek] right up front. And then the last 30-plus minutes of the movie are just this giant dance sequence.”
Soderbergh added that the sequence in question was shot in an old South London theater called the Chapman Grand which allowed him to stretch his experimentation, and performance art abilities and with Channing Tatum’s dancing abilities anything is possible.
“My job is, how do I make each one of these distinct? I can’t shoot them all the same way; I have to come up with a different approach for each dance. And that was really the challenge,” Soderbergh said. “That was fun, there’s not a bad angle to be had in that place.”
Magic Mike’s Last Dance will also feature Mike in a serious relationship. “The third film just really dives into this in a much bigger way, partially because for the first time we see Mike in a relationship. So that just allows for a dynamic and a set of discussions that we haven’t had access to, prior to Magic Mike’s Last Dance.”
Enter Salma Hayek Pinault.
As seen in the trailer above, “Magic” Mike Lane takes to the stage again after a lengthy hiatus, following a business deal that went bust, leaving him broke and taking bartender gigs in Florida. For what he hopes will be one last hurrah, Mike heads to London with a wealthy socialite who lures him with an offer he can’t refuse…and an agenda all her own. With everything on the line, once Mike discovers what she truly has in mind, will he—and the roster of hot new dancers he’ll have to whip into shape—be able to pull it off?
“I play a strong woman,” the Frida actress said. “You know what was my day going into the office? I would just sit around and watch, like, 12 men, semi-naked dancing and doing pirouettes. And I got to boss them around,” she said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
To celebrate Last Dance’s February release, Warner Bros Pictures released two new posters of Channing and Salma’s “dancing” chemistry.
MAGIC MIKE’S LAST DANCE will release in theaters on February 10th, 2023.
