Godzilla movies and TV shows are making a comeback with the success of Apple TV+’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and the Academy Award nominated Godzilla Minus One. Just in time to wet your Godzilla appetite is new exciting trailer for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire teasing intense action sequences, a baby Kong, weapon upgrades, comedic moments and an unlikely partnership to defeat a terrifying new threat.
As seen in the trailer above, the fifth installment in the MonsterVerse, reunites the titular creatures following Godzilla vs. Kong that sees our favorite foes Godzilla and Kong putting aside their differences to rise together or fall alone against Skar King, a primate titan. “They don’t have to like each other, they just have to work together,” says Dan Stevens’s character.
Wielding a weapon called the Whipslash, the action and fight scenes makes the previous movies look amateur. Speaking to Total Film, director Adam Wingard stated, “The Skar King almost represents an upscaled version of the worst parts of humanity, just as Kong represents some of the best parts of humanity. I would say the Skar King is the greatest threat that we’ve seen in these movies. It’s really going to take a full team together to bring it down because it’s too big for just one titan!”
Unlike other films, where Godzilla and Kong were literally trying to kill each other, they will have to rely on each other’s strengths to defeat Skar King. While it’s doubtful they’re become friends, they are humanity’s (and a baby Kong’s) only hope.
