John Cena Is Everyone’s Fake Best Friend In The Ricky Stanicky Trailer

there’s nothing better than having a best friend like Ricky Stanicky. He’s reliable, supportive and you can always count on him to get you out of a questionable situation. But what if that best friend never existed and instead was part of a childhood prank that went terribly wrong for decades to help you get out of a tough spot. What are you willing to do to coverup a lie?

Say hello to Ricky Stanicky, a fictional character made up by three best friends played by Zac and comedians Andrew Santino and Jermaine Fowler. Whenever the three of them need an excuse to go away together or get out of an obligation, they invoke their fake friend Ricky declaring “Ricky needs us.” But their web of lies is about to come crashing down when the trio go on vacation together, using Ricky as a pretext, and Andrew misses his son’s birth.

In order to prevent their loved ones from discovering their secret, they enlist the help of an ‘X-rated rock ‘n’ roll impersonator’ called ‘Rock-Hard Rod’ to play Ricky to impersonate their fictional friend. “You know, all we did is tell one lie,” JT says. “Hundreds and hundreds of times, over many, many years,” Dean added.

As seen in the trailer above, when three childhood best friends pull a prank gone wrong, they invent the imaginary Ricky Stanicky to get them out of trouble! Twenty years after creating this ‘friend,’ Dean, JT, and Wes (Zac Efron, Andrew Santino, and Jermaine Fowler) still use the nonexistent Ricky as a handy alibi for their immature behavior. When their spouses and partners get suspicious and demand to finally meet the fabled Mr. Stanicky, the guilty trio decide to hire washed-up actor and raunchy celebrity impersonator “Rock Hard” Rod (John Cena) to bring him to life. But when Rod takes his role of a lifetime too far, they begin to wish they’d never invented Ricky in the first place. From director Peter Farrelly and featuring additional cast members including William H. Macy, Lex Scott Davis, and Anja Savcic.

The film marks director Peter Farrelly’s highly anticipated return to the comedy genre after creating cult classics, There’s Something About Mary and Dumb and Dumber. The script was written by Jeff Bushell, Brian Jarvis, James Lee Freeman, Farrelly, Pete Jones and Mike Cerrone.

The film is produced by Paul Currie, Thorsten Schumacher, John Jacobs, Michael De Luca.

Ricky Stanicky premieres globally on Prime Video on March 7.
