The Chosen: Last Supper (Season 5) follows Jesus’ (Jonathan Roumie) triumph to treachery as his final days unfold in a story that changed the world. Welcomed as a king into Jerusalem, he boldly confronts the corrupt merchants, sparking a chain of events that shakes the city. While religious leaders scramble to silence his growing influence, Jesus shares one last meal with his closest followers. But in the shadows, Judas makes a deal that seals both their fates. In a tale of power, faith, and betrayal that echoes through time – one man’s ultimate sacrifice becomes humanity’s greatest story.
During our interview with Roumie he stated the goal for season 5 was all about Jesus finally accomplishing his mission. “Jesus has a mission and his mission is to get to the cross and how he gets there is what The Chosen is all about and season 5. It starts on a high. He enters Jerusalem on a donkey triumphantly where people are chanting his name, Hosana to the son of David, they’re waving palm branches, they’re throwing their garments in front of the donkey to like they would a king and they’re ready to crown him king. But five days later, you fast forward, and half of that same crowd is now chanting for his death and his crucifixion. Simply 5 days later he ends up being nailed to a cross without true cause. That is the story of this fifth season in all its twists and turns, and we see an emotional range and spectrum from Jesus that nobody’s really depicted before in cinematic history.”

“There’s elements of knowing that action [of turning over the tables] will certainly set the ball in motion to make sure Pharisees and the people that are against his mission make sure [Jesus] gets appropriately seized, sentenced and taken out of the picture, so to speak. As his emotional intentions behind it, Jesus as a representative of God in our story sees his father’s house, as he refers to it, the temple being actively defiled by the people that are supposed to be protecting it. There’s extortion going on, there’s cheating going on, there’s all sorts of illicit kinds of activities being done in the temple right in plain view. He sees this as an absolute affront to God and rightly so. [He] decides he’s had enough, it’s the last straw, and he has to make an example and so he turns the tables over, he flips the tables on these money changers who are cheating people. The people being cheated and extorted are the poorest of the poor, they are pilgrims that have come all the way to Jerusalem once a year. [They] spent everything they had to give these animals over as sacrifices in atonement for sins and they are being upsold and being told what they are bringing is not pure enough, they have to buy one of the temple animals instead, and it’s going to cause cost this much and 40% more for this tax, and the Romans tax. It’s a mockery and it’s a defilement. He’s had enough and he does what he needs to do to make a point to teach a lesson but also to forward his mission to the cross.”
As seen in the trailer above, the table is set. The people of Israel welcome Jesus as king while His disciples anticipate his crowning. But—instead of confronting Rome—he turns the tables on the Jewish religious festival. Their power threatened, the country’s religious and political leaders will go to any length to ensure this Passover meal is Jesus’ last.
The Chosen is a groundbreaking historical drama based on the life of Jesus, seen through the eyes of those who knew him. Set against the backdrop of Roman oppression in first-century Israel, the seven-season series shares an authentic and intimate look at Jesus’ revolutionary life and teachings. With over 250 million viewers, The Chosen is one of the most-watched series in the world, produced by 5&2 Studios and written, directed, and produced by Dallas Jenkins.
Jonathan Roumie returns as Jesus alongside Shahar Isaac as Peter, Paras Patel as Matthew, Elizabeth Tabish as Mary Magdalene, Noah James as Andrew, George H. Xanthis as John, Abe Bueno-Jallad as Big James, Vanessa Benavente as Mother Mary, Luke Dimyan as Judas, Richard Fancy as Caiaphas, Paul Ben-Victor as King Herod, and Andrew James Allen as Pontius Pilate.
Earlier this year, Amazon MGM Studios inked a first-look multi-faceted deal with 5&2 Studios. The wide-ranging deal provides streaming rights to the first five seasons of The Chosen and the new unscripted series The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls for Prime Video. The pact also includes theatrical and streaming rights to The Chosen’s upcoming final two seasons, which will follow the crucifixion (Season 6) and the resurrection (Season 7). Season 6 production is currently underway in the U.S. and Italy. Lionsgate handles global distribution for The Chosen and The Chosen In The Wild with Bear Grylls.
