Ubisoft has officially unveiled the next title in the long running Assassin’s Creed franchise. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate takes players to the streets of Victorian-era London where they must wrest control from the Templars to liberate the masses from their oppression.
The game stars the Frye twins: Jacob and Evie. These members of the Assassin Brotherhood must use all of their cunning and skill in order to free London from the Templars. Though twins, the two are opposite; Evie is more cautious and tactical, Jacob is more direct and brutal. Their different talents will provide players with different ways to play the game.
Since the game takes place in the London of 1868, certain things that the series in known for had to be changed. The most noticeable is that the assassins no longer carry traditional swords. Instead, they have cane swords which are easier to conceal. They also carry pistols and brass knuckles, and of course the hidden blades. The latter two will be particularly useful since combat is more up close and personal. It is also much faster and responsive than before to accommodate for the new fighting style.
Seeing as how London is so enormous, the game employs new ways to traverse the land. Horse-drawn carriages litter the streets and they can be used at any time (even if it’s currently being used). If your carriage takes on too much damage you can jump to another one even while in motion. Carriages can also be used to hide from your enemies. There is also a grappling hook that can be used at any time to get from the street to the top of a building or from building to building while running across rooftops.
Conquering territory is a main feature of the series and this entry is no different in that regard. You will have to fight gang leaders to gain control of their followers and then eventually use them to take down one of the seven Templars who controls the gangs. Allies can be saved and they will aid you in your quest to become the gang leader of a given district.
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 23.
