After the release of Grand Theft Auto V, this week’s Throwback Thursday looks back on Young Maylay‘s “San Andreas: The Original Mixtape“.
Released in 2005, “San Andreas: The Original Mixtape” came out a year after the release of Rockstar’s classic “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas” video game. Young Maylay was the voice of the main protaganist Carl “CJ” Johnson.
The first track of the five we have selected for this week’s Throwback Thursday is the first track from the mixtape. “San Andreas Theme Song” sees Young Maylay assume the role of his GTA character of CJ and rhymes about places, characters and activities all from the 2004 video game. The track was produced by Scottish producer Michael Hunter, who produced the theme songs for “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas” and “Grand Theft Auto IV“. This song was also featured on The Koalition’s “Grand Theft Auto V Mixtape“.
The second track from our selection is “Ride, Swerve, Slide“. Young Maylay is accompanied on the track by old skool Compton MC Rodney O, who also produced the track.
Track three is a King T solo track titled “Speak On It“. This song was featured on the mysterious “never-released-but-was” King T album titled “Thy Kingdom Come“. Creative differences between King T and Dr. Dre saw the album shelved until a later date and different label. “Speak On It” was produced by Dr. Dre.
The fourth track from our selected five is “Inna Ghetto“. The track features Young Maylay, King T, Bad Azz and Da Homie E. “Inna Ghetto” was produced by King T.
The last track of this week’s Throwback Thursday is “Twist A Corner“. This track contains appearances from Young Maylay, WC and the heavily featured King T who also produced the track.
“San Andreas: The Original Mixtape” is still available on Amazon.
